The Musical Mystery Tour Band
The tour marks the publication of
Hilary and Simon's first two children's picture books.
I'm a Parrot and Gobble! Gobble! will be published this year by Top That Publishing (UK) and Hinkler Books (Australia). They will be touring as a 4 piece with two fabulous musicians: percussionist, Simon Price and three time UK banjo champion and multi-instrumentalist, Richard Collins.
Show description:
Original songs, tunes, choruses, humourous sketches and audience participation. The show features a wide variety of musical instruments to see and hear: the mandobass, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, Victorian bodiless fiddle, ukulele and percussion. Sing along with the Parrot-Parrot from Hong-Hong-Kong-Kong and twist your tongue around the Flock of Fat Flamingoes.
As part of the show Hilary James will be 'doing a Rolf Harris' and drawing some of the pictures from the books.

At the end, you could see the little ones brimming over with enthusiasm for music, and a few of the parents ruing the day they gave up learning the violin.

I have never seen anyone explain the workings of a mandobass - essentially a cross between a mandolin and a double bass - to children before. Simon Mayor and Hilary James have the remarkable ability to do so, while putting across ideas about sound and rhythm in a way that very young children can understand. And they are entertaining with it.
